moonlightcinemaIn Sydney, we do not realise how fortunate we are to have such amazing weather during summer! This was especially striking to me after spending two weeks in London over July, experiencing first-hand their famous pouring rain and 19 degree days in the height of summer. With that in mind, it is my opinion that we should take every opportunity to cherish our warm balmy nights and enjoy the outdoors. What better way to do this than visiting the Moonlight Cinema in Sydney’s Centennial Park?!
IMG_5492On a marvellously sunny day, Moonlight Cinema set the summery vibes for us with the launch of the 2015/2016 Season at the Andrew Boy Charlton Pool. We were lucky enough to enjoy a taste of their menu and watch previews for new releases set to hit the screens this summer.

IMG_5493Now in its 20th year, the Moonlight Cinema offers the perfect location for a catch-up with friends, a date-night or even a pet friendly outing with their “Doggie Nights”. Most importantly though, they are providing a great food selection that gives you all the more reason to go extra early, snap the best patch of grass and enjoy some of their delicious high quality snacks and a bottle of wine (or two!).

IMG_5498Their menu, designed by Adam Petta, is inspired by LA Style food trucks. It offers a short but sweet collection of everyone’s favourite’s including Pulled Pork Sliders ($16), Classic and Vegetarian Nachos ($18 & $16), Buffalo Chicken ($14), Chilli Cheese Hot Dogs ($10) and Parmesan Truffle Fries ($9). We sampled both the Cheeseburger Sliders & Fries ($16) and Korean Fried Chicken Sliders & Fries ($16). Both were fingerlickly good, particularly the chicken, which was crisp yet tender and juicy inside. The kim chee and kewpie mayo were perfectly matched, all delivered on a lightly toasted brioche bun.

IMG_5509The Baby Calamari Fritti with Wasabi Mayo ($16) was also very tasty, with dusted baby calamari fried in a light batter accompanied by some aioli for dipping. It’s the perfect finger food to nibble at as you enjoy films under the stars.

IMG_5517Whilst being BYO for alcohol, if you didn’t have time to run to the bottle shop after work, their Drinks Menu provides all the basics. Available by the glass or bottle, is a selection of red, white and sparkling wines by Lindeman’s and Early Harvest. There’s also beer, cider, soft drinks and coffee.

Sweet offerings include the all-time classic Choc Top, Connoisseur & Maxibon ice-creams as well as chocolate bars and lollies. However, their piece-de-résistance are the Nutella Donuts ($9) featuring freshly made warm donuts filled with gooey nutella and dusted with icing sugar. These indulgent babies will leave you wanting more!

IMG_5503Beginning on December 3, the cinema is showing many advanced screenings of highly anticipated films such as Suffragette, Snoopy and Charlie Brown, Sisters, The Danish Girl, The Big Short and Dirty Grandpa. Of course there will also be all-time favourites with screenings of Top Gun, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off and Dirty Dancing.

IMG_5500With everyone living fast-paced lives, and such great summer weather calling us outside, I know from personal experience that it can be tricky to find time to go to the cinema! Luckily the Moonlight Cinema allows you to combine the two for the ultimate summer night!
