TBL_1Recently there seems to be two kinds of movements leading the way in Sydney’s food scene — the unhealthy, burger and donut filled diet of indulgence, and on the opposite end of the spectrum, an extreme clean eating and health conscious driven group. The Brunch Lady falls in the latter but isn’t just like any other new café to add to Bondi Junction’s evolving healthy food and fit living scene. Its sleek gleaming exterior is enticing, inviting you in and begging you to sample some of their healthy delights, proving that healthy can be delicious!TBL_10.1The brainchild of young 24-year-old marketing graduate Natasha Pillion, this café is proof of what a lot of hard work and dedication can bring. Having realised a gap in the market for a boutique DIY salad bar and reliable canteen to get takeaway healthy food on the go (that isn’t in a food court), she followed her passion for food and health to create an amazing café.TBL_14With a seasonal salad bar, showcasing fresh ingredients and a bench full of healthy goodies, this health food café is unlike others. Produce is sourced from local suppliers, with whom Nat communicates directly to source produce that is in season and high quality. Different varieties of green lettuce leaves are showcased in a brightly lit cabinet making eating healthy more attractive than ever.TBL_3The idea is that you see the salad created before your own eyes, instead of filling out a piece of paper and just waiting in a queue as many other salad eateries do. Nat wants her customers to interact and be apart of the process creating their meal, talking to them, making suggestions, and mentioning daily changes or different ingredients that have made an appearance.TBL_16With a short but sweet menu of pre-designed salads that one can choose from, in addition to the DIY option, people know and see exactly what is going into their meal. Carb options include brown rice, quinoa and soba noodles to leave you full and satisfied. All protein options are made fresh to order and the selection includes freshly grilled lemon & herb chicken, steak, slow-cooked lamb, sesame crusted haloumi or vegan oven-baked falafels.TBL_6We sampled the Mary Had a Lotta Lamb salad ($14) consisting of slow cooked pulled lamb, baby spinach, peas, mint, Spanish onion, goats cheese in a zesty Dijon mustard vinaigrette. Fellow contributor Justin usually hates salad and refuses to order them, but he was absolutely in love with this one and couldn’t get enough- exclaiming how tender and juicy the tender lamb was! Other premade options include the Moodle ($13) with grilled beef and soba noodles, edamame, avocado, cucumber & sesame seeds.TBL_4Furthermore, The Brunch Lady is on trend with the Matcha obsession consuming Sydney. Their smoothie menu boasts I Love You So Matcha with mango, spinach, banana, almond milk and Matcha green tea, or for something to warm you up, a delicious creamy Matcha Latte! On the day we visit, freshly baked treats linger and the Matcha White Chocolate cookie is an absolute stand out, with distinct Matcha notes and gooey melted chocolate bits throughout!TBL_7The Breakfast Bar menu from 7am-11am has a range of great items that will have you full steam ahead for a busy day. Offerings include The Brunch Lady Breakfast Salad ($12) — a favourite with gym junkies for their post workout fix, and the Breakfast Sandwiches ($9.50) which boast delicious fillings such as whipped ricotta, stewed seasonal fruit, buckwheat & raw honey. Or choose a sweeter beginning to your day with the Chocolate Nicecream Protein Bowl ($10) blended with frozen bananas, raw cacao, chocolate protein powder & ABC butter or the Protein Packed Pancakes ($12) with vanilla protein, banana, egg, desiccated coconut, cinnamon, berry compote finished with a dollop of nut butter cream. They had us wishing we had visited earlier to relish some tastes of the breakfast choices!

TBL_9The smoothie menu available all day encompasses a range of witty named smoothies created using homemade almond milk. Names include the quirky Peanut Butter & Jelly Went on a Diet ($8.50), The Hulk ($8.50)- mango, spinach, kale, super greens, chia, honey, The Healthiest Kitchen Sink ($9) or the coffee lover’s dream Coffee Smoothie ($10) with espresso, vanilla protein, almonds & cashews. The Just Like a Chocolate Milkshake Only Healthy ($8.50) is a great way to start the day, filled with banana, raw cacao, chocolate protein, spinach, almond milk & honey, giving you a guilt-free chocolate fix!TBL_2Nat hopes to begin office catering for local businesses and even join with a home delivery force to get her delights delivered straight to your door. That means you’ll have access to wholesome food when lounging on your sofa or are feeling simply too lazy to whip up something healthy! The Brunch Lady makes healthy delicious, and means there’s even less of a reason to deviate from nutritious living or make poor choices! TBL_13The Brunch Lady
