altitude_1 Altitude Restaurant is a hidden fine dining gem sitting 36 floors above the city with glorious views overlooking the harbour. There’s not a better place to enjoy the lights of Sydney’s annual Vivid Festival than from up in the sky with a 180 degree view to feast your eyes on.
altitude_3Altitude is holding a special seven course Vivid meal degustation throughout the duration of the three week light festival illuminating Sydney from May 27 to June 18. The menu is inspired by the lights and vibrant colours of Vivid, with seasonal produce at the forefront of each handcrafted dish. It offers the ultimate way to treat yourself with a taste from their amazing new Chef de Cuisine, Ricardo Ferreira and the option of perfectly matched wines chosen by our Executive Sommelier, John MacKinnon.altitude_5We begin with the Diamond Cloudy Bay Clam consisting of Diamond Clams marinated on a fresh green gazpacho. This light and fresh little starter whet our appetites for the entourage of dishes following.altitude_6Next up was the Cured Yellowfin Tuna, with beautifully cut slices of fresh sashimi tuna accompanied by edamame, coconut snow, Ajo Blanco and fresh horseradish. This dish was a favourite from the powdery coconut snow to the slight subtle tartness of the horseradish.altitude_7The tastes of the ocean continued with Moreton Bay Bugs served with seasonal local radish, warm winter seafood stew and karkalla. The bug was juicy and full of flavor, cooked perfectly, remaining tender and mouthwatering. The warm stew encompassed a foamy consistency with a tomato base and rich seafood aromas, carefully crafted to deliver a fullness of taste.altitude_8altitude_10The Redgate Farm Quail with black abalone, native berries, beetroot and slippery jack was just as delicious as its predecessors, with a crispy pan fried skin coating the small meaty little piece of quail. Meanwhile the Pork Jowl, is for all those piggy fans out there! Containing shredded pork meat compressed and encased with a crispy skin, the house made kimchi stood out with the cabbage possessing an abundance of crispness and distinctive kimchi spice.altitude_11For the main we choose to share the huge Pinnacle T-BONE steak which came at a supplement of $30. It was served with two sides of crispy potatoes, prosciutto, mushroom and olives and a light salad. The meat was cooked on the rarer side of medium rare, sliced expertly off the bone into chunky slices. The potatoes were moorish, enhanced by the prosciutto, mushroom and flavor bursts of olive — it had us begging for more! Meanwhile the salad was dressed in delicious vinaigrette, helping with its fresh rocket leaves to add some lightness to the mix. If you’re not willing to tackle a gigantic t-bone, alternatively enjoy the Striploin Angus Beef with Truffle Kipfler Potato, spinach, paper rice ravioli, which the waiter reassured us was just as delicious!altitude_12Almost bursting at the seams, our sweet toots prevailed and we eagerly awaited the final dessert course. Blackcurrant and yoghurt, was a beautifully presented dish decorated with fresh berries. A blackcurrant sorbet crowned an amalgamation of components including freeze-dried bits of powdered yoghurt, velvety and sweet mint ganache dotted with raspberries and blueberries to finish. It was very sweet but not too rich, with the refreshing elements of the berries gleaming through!altitude_14Afterward if you’re not too consumed by the dreamlike food coma, pop next door to the hotel lounge Blu Bar on 36 and soak up more of the Vivid delights. Here, the amazing view extends to other side of the harbour and one can enjoy their special Vivid cocktail selection. This consists of a tasting of three specially created cocktails Sweet Enigma, Lady in Red and Bee-Inspired, highlighting the bar’s signature cocktail concept of Liquid Physics ($28 for three cocktail samples).altitude_9Altitude Restaurant
